3 Midfielders Liverpool Can Sign In January

Date:

Leicester’s win against Aston Villa following Manchester City’s loss at home to Manchester United served as a prime indication of their intent to challenge for their second Premier League title.

Liverpool, as things stand, are yet to lose a single Premier League game this season having dropped points on just two occasions with draws.

Going into the second half of the campaign, it might be difficult for Liverpool to maintain the level of intensity and consistency that they’ve shown in the first half of the season, hence; here’s a look at three midfielders Liverpool could sign in January to improve the club’s squad depth which will, in turn, allow the Reds to maintain high performance levels for the rest of the Premier League campaign;

James Maddison

Signing James Maddison would not only bolster Liverpool’s midfield set-up, it would also weaken Leicester’s thus potentially bringing their title bid to a halt.

James Maddison has been involved in 10 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions this season. He has proven to be an incredibly key player for Leicester, so much so that the Foxes are considering offering him a new contract.

The new contract offer means that Liverpool would have to hold talks with Maddison as soon as possible to establish some sort of verbal agreement before the window opens up.

Leicester will probably be unwilling to let Maddison leave, hence it would take a massive offer for Liverpool to sign Maddison.

Nemanja Matic

With Tottenham already looking to sign Matic, Liverpool would have to hijack the £15m transfer in January to acquire his services.

Fabinho’s injury has put Liverpool in a difficult situation. The Brazilian is expected to be out until next year, and upon his return to the Liverpool squad, there’s a chance that his performance levels may drop, hence; Jurgen Klopp would do well to bolster Liverpool’s holding midfield role by signing Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic.

The ex-Chelsea man has a wealth of Premier League experience. Also, having lifted the Premier League trophy in the past, his presence in the Liverpool dressing room could have a positive effect on the players.

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes attracted the interest of quite a number of clubs in the summer including the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid following his exploits in the Liga Nos where he scored 20 goals in 33 league appearances, which for a midfielder is nothing short of phenomenal.

So far, he’s shown no signs of slowing down having already found the back of the net on five occasions and registered six assists. He would be an excellent addition to Liverpool’s already stellar lineup as it would provide the Reds with the extra edge they need to lift the title at the end of the season.
