As Manchester United made a very successful return to the UEFA Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 win over Basel in Group A, there was one glaring negative to take away from the game. It concerned their record signing, Paul Pogba, who picked up a hamstring injury that looks as though it will keep him out of action for the next few weeks. His early season form has been brilliant, and while his layoff could have been much worse, he will still be missed by Jose Mourinho. Their next game sees Wayne Rooney make his way back to Old Trafford as Everton make the trip to Manchester. We look at three players who could potentially replace Pogba in the Red Devils’ midfield.
2Big Man
When mentioning the phrase ‘big man’ to United fans, the first name that springs to mind for most is Marouane Fellaini. The huge Belgian may well come in to replace Pogba against The Toffees this weekend after already scoring two goals off the bench this term. He has been used as a super sub in four of the five Man United matches and in the Premier League against Leicester City, he scored their second goal.
His performances in the red shirt have been less than impressive over the last few seasons, and he has come under fire for his lack of ability on several occasions. He is already proving this campaign that he doesn’t lack in talent and that he should be considered for a place in the starting XI. He has been seen as the Special One’s go-to replacement midfielder, and that might be the case on Sunday afternoon.
