3 Reasons Why Danny Drinkwater Will Be Missed at Leicester

Leicester title victory

With deadline day less than 48 hours away, it is looking like it could turn out to be a classic. There are several big deals still in the works, and one of those involves Leicester City fans’ favourite, Danny Drinkwater. News that the Premier League champion had handed in a transfer request broke on Wednesday morning and left Foxes fans with mixed emotions.

This comes after reported interest and multiple bids from the current champions, Chelsea, but Leicester are holding out for £40 million, an extortionate fee that doesn’t look out of place in today’s market. If he does leave, he will be missed at the King Power Stadium and here are three reasons why.

1Irreplaceability

It’s easy to see why Leicester fans have become frustrated at the news of Drinkwater wanting to leave as they know, more than anyone, just how hard it will be to replace him. As a Leicester fan myself, in the last 10 years there haven’t been many better Foxes midfielders, Cambiasso and Kante are the only names that spring to mind. However, for £40 million, finding a replacement won’t be as much of a struggle with plenty of top European midfielders being available at that price. The qualities that the 27-year-old brings to the Foxes side aren’t replaceable, but the position he leaves behind certainly are.

If he does decide to leave, it will be sad to see him go but it’s just one of those things in football and with the money Leicester will receive, it’s not all bad news.

  1. He wasn’t very good after Kante left and has been “injured” so far this season. Looks like he wants to go and I don’t think he’ll be a big loss.
