Chelsea went into the 2019/2020 Premier League season with a transfer ban which prevented them from making any signings during the summer transfer window.

The ban was expected to continue into the winter window but following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Blues have now had their ban reduced and thus, will be able to make signings once the January transfer window opens up.

This is great news for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea as it’ll give them a chance to bolster some key areas in the team and supplement their top-four bid with some new signings.

Here’s a look at 4 signings Chelsea could make once the transfer window opens up;

Ben Chillwell

Ben Chillwell has proven to be one of the best left-backs in the Premier League having played a key role in Leicester’s incredible push for a top-four spot which currently sees them sat in 2nd place having lost just two games this season.

The Foxes currently boast of the best defensive record in the Premier League as they have conceded just nine goals all season long, due in large part to Chillwell’s efforts on the left flank which have complemented the rest of Leicester’s back four and attracted Chelsea’s attention.

Chillwell is a pacey full-back who’s great at making overlapping and inverted runs to contribute to his side’s build up play when need be.

Chillwell would reportedly cost Chelsea a fee in the region of £50m, but it’d be well worth it for a player of his quality.

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha has been tipped for a move to a top six club for the past few seasons, that move could finally come to fruition once the January transfer window opens up with Chelsea reportedly keen on acquiring his services.

Zaha would be an excellent replacement for Pedro, who is going into the twilight of his career and can no longer be relied upon to produce the goods for Chelsea on a consistent basis.

Zaha would introduce a new dynamic to Chelsea’s attack thanks to his flair and ability to create something out of nothing. He would sort of replicate Eden Hazard’s influence at Chelsea in a sense, considering his ability to create space in tight situations is similar to the Belgian’s.

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho

With reports claiming that Jadon Sancho is unhappy at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea could swoop in to acquire his services once the January transfer window opens up, however, the Blues would have to fight for Sancho’s signature with Manchester United also looking to recruit him to Old Trafford.

Sancho could serve as an alternative to Wilfried Zaha if Chelsea are unable to sign the Crystal Palace man in January. He possesses large amounts of flair which would allow him to inject some unpredictability into Chelsea’s frontline.

Callum Wilson

Tammy Abraham has established himself as a mainstay in Chelsea’s squad having enjoyed a productive season thus far scoring 11 goals in 14 games for the Blues.

He has proven himself to be a capable goalscorer, however, with Olivier Giroud far from his peak and tipped to leave Chelsea in January, Frank Lampard could sign Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson to serve as a back-up to Abraham.

Wilson is an experienced Premier League goalscorer, and as such, he can be relied upon to find the back of the net when needed. He’d be the perfect player to provide Abraham with some competition up front whilst also ensuring that Chelsea have enough depth in the attacking third to keep them at the top of their game throughout the second half of the Premier League campaign.
