4 Players Chelsea Need To Sell In January

Date:

Against all odds, Chelsea find themselves sitting in a Champions League qualification spot despite having made no signings during the summer transfer window due to a transfer ban.

With their transfer ban now lifted, Chelsea are free to make new signings in January, that also means that they will be able offload players who are no longer good enough to be at the club.

Here’s a look at four players Frank Lampard should sell in January;

Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud Chelsea

Having featured in just five Premier League games this season, Olivier Giroud is more or less surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

The Frenchman has made some decent contributions to Chelsea ever since he arrived at the club from Arsenal in 2018, however, he’s no longer at a level where he can be in contention for a place in Chelsea’s first-team especially with Tammy Abraham currently leading Chelsea’s frontline.

Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso Chelsea

Under Antonio Conte, Marcos Alonso was arguably the best left-back in the Premier League. He hasn’t performed too badly under Frank Lampard, but he’s put up some questionable defensive showings this season.

Marcos Alonso is more of a wing-back than a full-back. He’s great at cutting passing lanes and contributing to Chelsea’s offensive sequences, but his defensive contributions aren’t significant enough to warrant a place in Chelsea’s lineup, and as such, Chelsea would benefit from offloading him in January, especially with Inter Milan reportedly keen on acquiring his services.

Pedro

Pedro Chelsea

Pedro has been an influential player at Stamford Bridge ever since he signed for Chelsea, but at the age of 32, with his abilities waning, there is realistically no chance for Pedro to consistently get game time at Chelsea, hence, Frank Lampard would do well to offload him once the January transfer window opens up.

Pedro has managed just five Premier League appearances this season, that tally is unlikely to improve tremendously going into the second half of the season, hence it’d be better for both Pedro and Chelsea if the Spaniard secured a move to a different team.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley Chelsea

Once hailed as the next Frank Lampard, Ross Barkley has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and could be on his way out in January.

Barkley has featured in just 6 Premier League games for Chelsea this season with Frank Lamaprd preferring the likes of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic to the former Everton man.

Being 26, Chelsea could still command a decent transfer fee for Barkley’s services despite his lack of game time.
