Despite acquiring two high-class signings in the form of Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof, Manchester United have not replaced the ageing Michael Carrick in this transfer window. Even though he has just been named the new club captain and impressed for the majority of last season, the soon to be 36-year-old does need replacing but who could replace this club legend?
1Radja Nainggolan, AS Roma
The Belgian international is another name who has been linked with Manchester United which has led to nothing. AS Roma are intent on keeping their highly rated class act who has scored 28 goals in 160 appearances for Roma since joining from Cagliari in 2013. United have been told he is not for sale as they have already had to offload key players already.
Despite this statement, every player has a price, and with Roma’s financial difficulties they could be convinced to sell another of their key men. He would bring power and boldness to the side; Mourinho would like his physicality. He is a mix of Gennaro Gatusso, Roy Keane and Edgar Davids, so he is one solid player that you would not want to mess with.
He also has a real thunderbolt of a shot and adds a different dimension to a side…but not in the way his international teammate Marouane Fellaini does (insert headbutt/elbow). Well, actually he might throw one in himself!
Fabinho would be the ideal recruit in this position
