Marcus Rashford has proven to be most consistent player for Manchester United this season. Whilst he had a slow start to the Premier League campaign, he’s managed to score 14 goals in 22 appearances putting his side within reach of a top four finish.
Rashford is now expected to be out for the next couple of months, leaving United without their goalscoring threat for around two months.
With the January transfer window still open, here’s a look at 5 players United could sign to replace Rashford for the duration of his injury;
Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud has found playing time hard to come by under Frank Lampard, leading him towards making a move away from Stamford Bridge before the end of the month.
Inter Milan reportedly have him under their radar, however, Manchester United could sign him before the transfer window draws to a close considering his vast experience plying his trade in the Premier League.
Whilst he can’t offer the pace Rashford usually brings, his ability to link-up with his teammates is unique and will prove useful to United’s attack.
Fernando Llorente
Fernando Llorente is reportedly linked with a return to Tottenham with Jose Mourinho’s side currently lacking in attacking options following Harry Kane’s injury.
United could make a move for Llorente as a stop-gap option up until the end of the season as he can fill in for Rashford and make some significant goal contributions to aid United’s top four bid.
Michy Batshuayi
Michy Batshuayi has been playing second fiddle to Tammy Abraham all season long and that lack of game time appears to have affected his confidence in front of goal.
Should Batshuayi be granted a good run of games to rediscover his form, he can potentially play a major role in United’s top four bid should United opt to make a move for the Chelsea man.
Luka Jovic
Heralded as Europe’s next big striker, Luka Jovic has struggled to make his mark at Real Madrid, with Zinedine Zidane not helping matters by giving him minimal playing time.
A player of Jovic’s caliber needs to be playing regularly to develop into a world-class striker, on that note, Manchester United could look to sign him on a short-term loan.
It would be a win-win for both Manchester United and Real Madrid as United would be getting a quality striker to replace Rashford with while Madrid will be able to aid Jovic’s development by giving him a chance to get a consistent run of games in the Premier League.
Dries Mertens
Mertens is currently linked with Chelsea and Arsenal, but following Rashford’s injury, Manchester United could also make a move for 32-year-old Mertens, who over the past decade has been a consistent performer on the European football scene.
