With the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica, who can feature at right or centre back, Manchester United have improved their backline tenfold.
But with a significant injury to Marcos Rojo and several other defenders being made of glass, no names mentioned *cough* Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw *cough*. With the success of Eric Bailly signing from Villareal last season Manchester United should look to Spain once again to strengthen their back line.
2José Giménez, Atletico Madrid
The Uruguay international is a real up and coming talent who is bound to be a star defender. He only played 17 La Liga games last season, but at just 22 years old he is being nurtured by manager Diego Simeone and will be used more regularly next season.
Like Lindelof, he can operate at centre back or right back which would add new real dimension to Mourinho’s options. He is strong in a tackle, concentrates on the proceedings intently and is a no-nonsense defender. Watch this name!
