In their penultimate Champions League group game, Liverpool’s defensive woes hit a new low. They were 3-0 up against Sevilla and somehow managed to draw 3-3 with the Spanish side. The problems at the back have been evident since last season, and there will be question marks over Liverpool boss Klopp as to why he did not reinforce his defence in the summer. However, he has a chance of redemption as the January transfer window isn’t far away but who should the German try and sign?
2Ryan Bertrand, Southampton
If Liverpool do sign another player from Southampton, they may have to change their name to Southampton reserves. But Bertrand would be a significant improvement on Alberto Moreno who has been a weak link for far too long at left back.
Bertrand does have an attacking vibe about him as he likes to get forward as much as possible and supply key passes through to the strikers who would be vital for the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. He could improve on his tackling, but with enough cover from his midfielders, he would be a key component in the Liverpool machine.
