Manchester City are currently 11 points behind league leaders Liverpool on the Premier League table. Whilst based on Liverpool’s current form it’s fair to say that the title race is already over, we cannot afford to count Man City out just yet due to the Premier League’s unpredictable nature as well as the sheer goalscoring power of Pep Guardiola’s side.

With the January transfer window set to open up next month here’s a look at 5 players City could sign when the winter window commences;

Nathan Ake

Manchester City have always been known for constantly looking to bolster their squad despite the presence of quality players in each position. This system of recruitment has given Manchester City unparalleled squad depth and it looks like they’re set to improve that depth going into January with Guardiola reportedly keen on signing Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake.

After joining Bournemouth from Chelsea two years ago, Ake accelerated his development by becoming a mainstay in Bournemouh’s defence and thus, garnered more Premier League experience.

Ake is at a point where he can be regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in the league. Despite being currently linked with a move Chelsea, Manchester City should be confident of their ability to sign him.

Kai Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz has attracted the interest of many of Europe’s top clubs, including Manchester City with the Citizens keen on bolstering their midfield set-up due to David Silva’s looming exit.

Havertz is a quality midfielder who boasts impressive ball distribution abilities, shooting abilities and dribbling abilities thus making him an all-round package. He’d be an excellent addition to City’s line-up, however, Guardiola will have to fight for his signature with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool also looking to sign the 20-year-old.

Mikel Oyarzabal

With six goals and four assists in 17 La Liga appearances, Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal has attracted the interest of multiple top clubs, including Champions of England, Manchester City.

The 22-year-old is a quality midfielder who always has a trick or two under his sleeve when attacking through the middle or on the flanks. He’s a good dribbler, but most importantly, he possesses incredible speed of though, allowing him to orchestrate moves that his opponent’s are unable to read on time.

Oyarzabal would be an excellent addition to Manchester City’s roster if the Citizens are able to sign him in January.

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen is heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham in January and as such, Manchester City could make an attempt to sign the Danish midfield maestro when the winter window opens up.

A midfield combo of Eriksen and De Bruyne could grant Manchester City the best midfield set-up in the entire world considering the level both players are capable of operating on.

Boubakary Soumare

20-year-old Boubakary Soumare has proven to be one of the best young midfielders in the Ligue 1.

Despite being so young, Soumare boasts of impressive composure which allows him to dictate the flow of midfield while under pressure.

He’s unlikely to be able to play a major role in City’s current set up but he’d be a great signing for the future considering his impressive potential.
