We’re two games into the new Premier League season and have just three teams with maximum points. The usual suspects Manchester City and Liverpool find themselves in 5th and 6th positions. But, one team has failed to get going really and they are the reigning champions, Chelsea.
We take a look at five reasons Chelsea’s crown is under threat.
1. More Competitions + More Games = Busy/Burnout Season
With Chelsea back in European Football, at least 6 group stage matches would be added to the already busy schedule of the reigning English Champions. The Champions League demands a huge squad, and when it comes to a 3-4-3 formation, as often played by Antonio Conte, three regular centre-backs along with two wing-backs are required. With only 7 of such players, including Victor Moses as a Right Wing Back, any football fan would point out that Chelsea are light at the back
Accommodating both the Premier League and Champions League on a weekly basis would burn out even players like N’Golo Kante, and this would also be a factor for the rest of the players.
