5 reasons why Spurs should sign Bale in January

Date:

The rumours are growing stronger by the day of a possible switch to Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale. One of the world’s most expensive players ever has run his course in Madrid, with him now seeking greener pastures. In the summer, the Welsh superstar had his blockbuster move to China cancelled by Real Madrid, despite Zinedine Zidane spending the latter of last season calling for him to go. However, now seems like the perfect time for the 30-year-old to return to the club that made him famous.

Here are 5 reasons why Spurs should sign Bale in January

He’s unhappy

It’s no secret that Gareth Bale is unhappy in Spain. The Welshman has made several jokes about how much he detests life in Madrid. You can take the boy out of the UK, but you can’t take the UK out of the boy.

Gareth Bale wasn’t born for the glitz and glamour of Real Madrid, he thrived best when in the gritty North London. Bale’s agent has made it clear that his client would move if the right opportunity arose, a return to London would certainly be that right opportunity.

Jose Mourinho would revive him

Jose Mourinho Manchester United

Tottenham have become much more of a global name since the arrival of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager is one of the biggest names in world football and he has added a certain level of pedigree to the club. He’s a big-name manager that players dream of playing for. Such an opportunity doesn’t always arise and the sell of Mourinho could play a pivotal part in the decision of Bale.

Shows real intent

This season Tottenham moved into a new state of the art stadium, a stadium that allows them to compete with the elites of Europe regarding matchday revenue. Daniel Levy has shown the world that he wants to elevate his club to a new level, the re-acquisition of Gareth Bale would only further cement that.

Despite not having the best of times in Madrid, the 30-year-old is still one of the best wingers in the world and can terrorise any defence on his day. To sign the Welshman in January would be a major statement to the rest of the Premier League.

Would work in a deal with Eriksen

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen has made it abundantly clear that he does not see a future for himself at Tottenham. The Dane is hopeful that a move to Real Madrid could materialise, with the playmaker already house-hunting in Spain. Eriksen’s refusal to sign a new contract opens the possibility for a potential swap deal with Bale.

Real Madrid wants to get rid of the winger who’s on a massive wage while they have also been monitoring the situation of Eriksen. The timing of the two possible deals would work out perfectly and manifest into a financially agreeable swap deal.

Need to push for the Top 4

Tottenham vs Arsenal

Everyone knows that the financial implications for finishing outside the top 4 would be catastrophic for a club the size of Tottenham, Daniel Levy cannot afford such an outcome. The top 4 race is wide open this season. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are all faltering so far. However, the worst of those runs may be over, and teams are starting to find their rhythm.

Tottenham knows that they cannot afford to drop any more points in the second half of the season. The signing of Gareth Bale would give them the much-needed momentum to see off their competition.
