Following the start of the new year, we take a look at five things we learnt from Manchester United in 2017.

1More Fluidity

Manchester United

At the start of the season, we saw Manchester United utterly dominate teams and kill games off with relative ease. It looked like Jose Mourinho had finally cracked the code.

The United of Old was back, albeit for a short period as the Red Devils eventually fell into a rut and their fine start to the 2017/18 campaign came to an abrupt end.

United’s fluidity in August was clear for all to see, they were passing teams off the park and creating chance after chance thanks to the joint influence of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba.

The team’s play, though, has evidently become more rigid and predictable over the past three months, as a result of Jose Mourinho’s pragmatism and fatigue. The Special One needs to inject some much-needed fluidity back into the side through a change of tactics and the addition of new players in the January transfer window.
