Since arriving at Tottenham, Jose Mourinho has put Spurs back in contention for a top four finish, but to truly get over the line and into a Champions League qualification spot, he needs to make some new signings in January.

On that note, here are 7 players Tottenham could sign in January;

Nathan Ake

Nathan Ake is probably the best young centre-back in the Premier League, which in itself, makes him an extremely valuable player for any club to have within its ranks.

Having already featured as a mainstay in two Premier League campaigns for Bournemouth, the 24-year-old has proven to be good enough to go one step further and play for a top-six club.

Ake is currently linked with a move to his former club Chelsea, but Tottenham would do well to enter the race for his signature with the likes of Jan Vertonghen going into the latter stages of his career.

Gareth Bale

Both Gareth Bale and Jose Mourinho have been vocal about their admiration for each other thus strongly hinting at the possibility of a move for the Welshman in January.

Bale enjoyed tremendous success for Tottenham in the Premier League before making a move to Real Madrid.

The Welshman looks set to leave the Bernabeu in January, and due to his history with Spurs he is likely to prefer a return to the team that propelled him to football stardom.

James Maddison

James Maddison

Tottenham’s resident midfield maestro, Christian Eriksen has been strongly linked with a move away from the club since last summer and it looks like that move could materialize in January with Manchester United keen on acquiring the Danish midfielder’s services.

On that note, Spurs could make a move for Leicester’s James Maddison who has proven to be one of the most influential players in the Foxes’ top four bid with five goals and three assists in 16 Premier League appearances.

Maddison would be an excellent replacement for Eriksen should he make a move to United or elsewhere.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Shaqiri is a player who is capable of creating something out of nothing.

He’s built his entire career off of being able to exploit the tightest of spaces thanks to his mesmerising dribbling abilities. Considering he has been unable to garner ample game time at Liverpool, the Swiss maestro is expected to leave the club in January..

Tottenham could make a move for Shaqiri to improve the team’s squad depth and introduce a new dynamic to the team’s attack.

Victor Osimhen

Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has lit up the Ligue 1 having found the back of the net nine times in 17 appearances for Lille.

The 20-year-old is currently under Spurs’ radar with Jose Mourinho expected to make a move for him in January.

He’d serve as a back-up to Harry Kane with Tottenham currently lacking a real alternative for the prolific Englishman.

Paulo Dybala

Paulo Dybala

Paulo Dybala is heavily linked with a move away from Juventus with Tottenham expected to be his destination.

The Argentine has proven to be a world-class player following his performances for the Bianconeri over the past three seasons. He’d be an excellent addition to Spurs’ current set-up as he’s young, pacey great at set-pieces, and always has a trick or two up his sleeve.

Ricardo Perieira

Ricardo Pereira has proven to be one of the most consistent full-backs in the Premier League. He’s contributed a great deal to Leicester’s success having protected the right flank excellently and contributed two goals and an assist in the process.

He’d be an excellent addition to Tottenham’s defensive set-up as he’d be able to contribute to the team’s build up play whilst also maintaining his defensive duties.
