The UEFA Champions League draw took place in Rome on Thursday and Chelsea have been given one of the trickier groups. The Blues were amongst those in pot 1 alongside all the clubs that had won their domestic leagues.
After a one year absence, Chelsea’s return to Europe’s grandest stage will include trips to Spain, Italy and Azerbaijan. The past two times the Blues entered the competition, they were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain. The year before they were sent packing by their now AWOL striker Diego Costa. Antonio Conte will be hoping the 2017/18 campaign offers a more favourable outcome.
Here’s a look at Chelsea’s Group C opponents.

The Azerbaijani champions are making their Champions League debut, and what a group to debut in. The debutants have only ever featured in the Europa League, only reaching the group stage three times in the past decade. Apart from those three occasions, they’ve failed to get through the qualifying stages of the Europa League.
Qarabağ are undoubtedly the minnows of the group, but an away trip to Azerbaijan will be a daunting prospect for all their fellow teams. Chelsea will no doubt have to deal with a bobbled pitch at the Azersun Arena in front of a ruckus home crowd. They’re nothing to be sniffed at as they are champions in their own right.
I see chelsea conquering all through the way but with a stif test over athletico
