Why Time Is Not Ripe For Abramovic to Sack Jose

Date:

After Chelsea’s disappointing start to this Season’s campaign and despite the Club’s ‘official’ support for Jose, lot of questions regarding the Portuguese’s future at the Stamford Bridge have been asked.

Here we analyze Jose’s current situation at Chelsea and whether or not, he should be sacked.

Chelsea have had their worst start to a Premier League campaign for over three decades as the Blues find themselves in a lowly 12th position in the Premier League table. To add to the disappointment, Chelsea’s European campaign has also been far from impressive this season as they lie at a third spot behind FC Porto and Dynamo Kiev.

Moreover, this campaign has been dismal and controversial for Jose personally. The famous Eva Carneiro episode was just the beginning of the controversial year for the Portuguese tactician as he continued his outburst6 against the Referees and the Football Association that resulted in a traumatizing campaign for him.

However, all this does not imply that time is ripe for Roman Abramovic to sack Jose. “The Special One” still has immense faith in himself as he earlier described,

“I do not run away. (There is) No way I resign. No way. If the club wants to sack me, they have to sack me because I am not running away from my responsibility. Why? Because Chelsea cannot have a better manager than me. There are many managers in the world that belong to my level, but they are not better. Not better. So no chance I run away.”

Jose was boastful, yet right. The current football world has very few ideal replacements for a manager of Jose’s caliber, and only one Carlo Ancelotti is without a club at this moment. Moreover, given the previous way the Italian was sacked by the club, chances of his return would be bleak.

Another potential manager is current Bayern boss and Jose’s long term rival Pep Guardiola. However, Pep would not like to be Mourinho’s successor in any case. The next manager in line is the new Liverpool coach Klopp, but it is almost sure that he is not leaving Liverpool any time soon. All the other managers lack the Premier League experience, and any such appointment could prove disastrous (like Andre Villas Boas). Thus, there are few people fit for Jose’s job.

Chelsea’s disappointing start to their title defence can mainly be attributed to below par performances from key players rather than any managerial failures. Ivanovic, Hazard, Matic, and Fabregas, who were all crucial during last season’s campaign, have been utterly disappointing this season. This can be gauged from the fact that Chelsea have already conceded nine goals due to individual errors this season, two more than last season. Players lack of form always puts manager to the blame, and this has been the case this season for Mourinho.

It is certainly true that despite all the negativity that has prevailed this season, it is highly unlikely that Chelsea would get an instant ideal replacement for Jose. The Portuguese has been the most successful manager for the last decade.

Moreover, he has the experience to overcome the poor form and it looks that Chelsea have already started their revival with two back to back Mourinhoesqe results in the form of a 2-0 win over Aston Villa and a favorable away 0-0 draw against Dynamo Kiev. However, Mourinho’s resurgence will be put to the test by the high-flying West Ham when Chelsea play them this weekend. If Mourinho manages to lead Chelsea to a victory, talks about his future at the Bridge will stop.
