Aston Villa are in no mood to stop signing players in this summer transfer window. Unai Emery has done a fantastic job by taking the club to their maiden Champions League campaign.
The Spaniard, along with the club’s President of Football Operations, Monchi, has added well to the squad thus far, with Ian Maatsen, Ross Barkley, and Amadou Onana being the most high-profile names.
After strengthening the defense and midfield, Aston Villa have now shifted their focus towards beefing up their attacking unit as they look to make a squad robust enough to compete on all fronts in the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.
After selling Moussa Diaby to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, one would expect the Villans to go for his like-for-like replacement. However, that hasn’t been the case until now.
According to Italian outlet Il Mattino (via Tutto Mercato), Aston Villa have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign striker Romelu Lukaku, but the player prefers a move to Serie A side Napoli.
Chelsea and Napoli have been in talks over a move for Romelu Lukaku of late, with new boss Antonio Conte eyeing a reunion with the Belgian striker at Naples. However, unless Napoli doesn’t offload Victor Osimhen, they cannot sign the Chelsea misfit.
After two straight loans in Serie A with Inter Milan and AS Roma, Chelsea want to offload Lukaku permanently this summer. The Pensioners want to trim their wage bill by moving him on, but with lack of movement from Napoli’s side of things, they are ‘losing patience’ and have agreed a fee with Villa for the Belgium international.
Under Conte’s tutelage at Inter Milan, Lukaku played arguably the best football of his career and the pair won the Scudetto together. Thus, it is understandable why the 31-year-old center-forward wants to reunite with Conte again.
As for Villa, they will need to convince Lukaku of the exciting project under Emery and the chance to represent the club in their first-ever Champions League campaign.
