Bangladesh-India Only Test Ends in Draw

The rain-ruined one-off Test between Bangladesh and India in Fatullah ended in a draw on Sunday.

Only 184.1 of out possible 450 overs were bowled in the match due to lengthy washouts.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin produced his 10th five-wicket haul in Tests while veteran Harbhajan Singh bagged three wickets as the hosts were bundled out for 256 and then asked to bat again.

Bangladesh reached 23-0 in 15 overs in their second innings before the match was called off with the consent of both skippers.

India, who elected to bat, had declared their first innings for 462-6 on the third day.

On the final day, when Bangladesh resumed the innings at 111-3 after a three-hour rain delay, Ashwin struck in the third over to remove Shakib al Hasan (9), caught by glovesman Wriddhiman Saha.

Imrul Kayes (72) and Soumya Sarkar (34) put on 51 runs for the fifth wicket before Harbhajan edged former behind the stumps.

Paceman Varon Aaron Sarkar’s middle-stump in the next over to leave the hosts reeling at 172-6.

Ashwin struck again on the stroke of tea to scalp Shuvagata Hom (9), caught by Rohit Sharma at leg-slip, as the hosts reached 219-7 at interval.

Litton Das (44) became Ashwin’s fifth victim early in the final session, with Rohit taking a brilliant one-handed catch in slips.

Harbhajan then accounted for Mohammad Shahid, caught by Shikhar Dhawan at long-on, to leave Bangladesh nine down before last-man Jubair Hossain ran himself out.

Dhawan, who hit 173 and shared a record 283-run first-wicket stand with Murli Vijay (150), was adjudged man-of-the-match.

The two sides will now play three-match one-day international series.
