Manchester United have been looking to prioritize outgoings in the final week of the ongoing summer transfer window as INEOS look to make way for new faces with fringe sales and deadwood cleared.
Overseeing their first-ever transfer window as the co-owners, INEOS—spearheaded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe—have done a wonderful job in transfer dealings this off-season. However, the work is not yet fully completed.
The Red Devils are looking to offload players to make room for new faces, presumably Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain. And it looks like one Manchester United player is now close to leaving Old Trafford.
According to a report from The Athletic, Championship outfit Burnley have agreed a deal with Manchester United for the signing of Hannibal Mejbri. It was initially a loan deal with an obligation to buy, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano now claims that the midfielder has joined Burnley permanently after passing his medical tests.
Hannibal Mejbri, 21, who joined Man United’s youth system from AS Monaco in 2019, will undergo his medical tests today ahead of completing his switch to Turf Moor.
The Tunisia international has not been able to live up to the hype that he garnered from the fans, failing to cement his place in Erik ten Hag’s XI. He then joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan. After returning to Manchester United, he spent the first half of the 2023-24 season under Erik ten Hag.
However, lack of playing time resulted in the €9 million-rated midfielder joining Sevilla on loan during the second half of last season. However, it turned out to be a forgettable experience for the player as he managed only six La Liga appearances in Sevilla colors.
Hannibal returned to Manchester earlier in the summer and was involved in the pre-season tour of the United States. However, Erik ten Hag hasn’t included the creative midfielder in the Man United squad in the opening two Premier League games of the new season, indicating that he isn’t in his plans moving forward.
Perhaps, those signals from the manager were straight and sound as the France-born Tunisian talent is set to undergo his medical at Burnley before signing his contract.
