Chelsea Duo Fit for Community Shield Match-Up

Date:

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has no injury concerns ahead of the eagerly awaited FA Community Shield match as both striker Diego Costa and defender Gary Cahill are fit to play Sunday’s clash against Arsenal at Wembley.

The pair suffered injuries during Chelsea’s shoot-out victory over the European champions Barcelona in a pre-season match of USA tour, with Costa limping off due to a hamstring strain and Cahill picking up a nose injury.

The participation of key players in Sunday’s opening encounter of FA calendar was doubtful but Blues’ boss Mourinho told a news conference on Friday that the Spain international and the Englishman are both 100% fit.

“All good, yes,” the 53-year-old replied when asked about the fitness of Costa and Cahill. “No concerns, I am not worried about it,” he said. “We have three top strikers. If one is injured we have two more.”

The Community Shield, the traditional season opening match between the FA Cup holders and Premier League champions, is scheduled to be played on Sunday Aug 2, at 3pm between Arsenal and Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium.

Arsenal will attempt to win the trophy for the second time in a row. Last season they won the Community Shield contest by registering a 3-0 victory over Manchester City.
