Chelsea are reportedly plotting a shock winter swoop for Tottenham Hotspur’s summer target Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama.
According to The Daily Star, Wanyama has been considered as ‘ top target’ for Jose Mourinho in the wake of the Blues’ disappointing performances this season so far.
The Kenya international, who has been serving the Saints since 2013, is desperate to call it quit with the club. He is running down the contract, which is due to be expired by the end of the ongoing season.
With his value diminishing gradually, Southampton will have to let Wanyama go, as he seems unwilling to extend the contract any further.
The Blues are ready to offer a £20m bid to get Victor signed. Mourinho is hopeful that Wanyama’s expected inclusion in his squad will get their title race back on the track.
The ex-Celtic midfielder has also been linked with Spurs transfer this summer but the £18m deal collapsed after Southampton turned down the offer.
Meanwhile, the Blues have also been considering Proto’s Rubin Neves, the Red Star’s Marco Grujic and Juventus’ Paul Pogba to strengthen their midfield options.
