Chelsea have completed the signing of veteran defender Papy Djilobodji from Nantes in a £2.7 million deal hours before the closure of summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old Senegal international has signed a four-year contract with at Stamford Bridge after successfully undergoing a medical on Monday.
The transfer of Djiolbodji was announced by Ligue 1 club through Twitter on Tuesday, however, Chelsea are yet to officially confirm the move.
Djilobodji emerged as a late target for the Blues after they failed to sign their long-term transfer priority John Stones from Everton, who turned down their three bids worth £20m, £26m and £35m respectively saying the England international was not for sale.
Djilobodj made 183 appearances for the Ligue 1 club since joining from Sénart-Moissy in 2010 and was in the last year of his contract. Last season, he played 31 games for his former club in all competitions.
Besides Chelsea, the Senegalese also attracted interest from Sunderland and Aston Villa this summer.
He has earned 12 caps for Senegal since making his full debut in 2013 and was the part of country’s squad in 2015 Africa Cup Of Nations.
