Real Madrid target David De Gea is likely to stay at Old Trafford this season and Louis van Gaal will have no concerns regarding the goalkeeper’s professionalism should he decides to do so.

Manchester United keep insisting that highly-rated goalie will only be allowed to join Bernabeu for a world record fee or if they get Sergio Ramos in exchange. However, club officials are not expecting either to happen before closure of the transfer window.

La Liga giants have always refused to draw Argentina striker Sergio Ramos in a swap deal for the goalkeeper.

The Spain international played against Barcelona and Paris St-Germain in pre-season but was left out of the squad for the season opener against Tottenham as Argentina international Sergio Romero, 28, made his debut.

He was spotted sitting in the stands alongside former Barcelona Victor Valdes, who has been exiled by Van Gaal after a fallout towards the end of last season.

However, the Spaniard has been named in United’s Champions League squad indicating that they are confident of keeping him this season and are prepared to let the shot stopper walk away as a free agent next summer.

Real Madrid are reported to have stepped up efforts to secure the services of one of the best goalkeepers in the World with a take-it-or-leave-it bid worth £21.2 million but United are holding out for a fee closer to £25 million.

Real’s undeterred interest in the former Atlético Madrid goalkeeper is not surprising as Los Blancos are in need of a long-term replacement for the recently departed Iker Casillas.

De Gea’s consistently excellent performances last season played a pivotal role in United finishing in top four of the Premier League.
