AS Roma had an imperfect start to their 2024-25 season as they could muster only a draw against Cagliari last night. The Romans made quite a few attempts to breach the goal, but Cagliari were forceful enough to force them to a 0-0 draw.
There were several talking points from this match, but the comments of the Roma coach, Daniele de Rossi, after the match, also raised some eyebrows among the journalists present in the presser.
In the last few days, there have been rumours of a proposed move for Paulo Dybala to the Saudi side Al-Qadsiah. As Gazetta dello Sport has reported, after the match against Cagliari, a question on this subject was also put to De Rossi, and the Italian tactician made some interesting remarks on this topic:
“I’ve already talked enough about this situation. On September 2nd, we’ll talk about the transfer market and who’s here. You shouldn’t ask me about the timing. Paulo came in well, he was in the game.
A Roma without Dybala and without other substitutes would scare me, even if someone else were to leave. If someone leaves and we don’t bring in anyone, that could worry me. But if someone leaves and we replace them with strong and functional players, we’ll move forward and work with those who are here.”
There is no doubt that a player of Dybala’s quality leaving the club would significantly harm the Roman team. However, De Rossi seems to have made his peace with the situation, and his comments indicate that he has already identified the players that he would want if Dybala is to leave this summer.
With only less than two weeks left in the summer transfer window, it will become in the coming days whether Dybala leaves and if De Rossi’s desired reinforcements arrive to replace him in the squad.
