One of the biggest stories of the summer transfer window saw Diego Costa attempting to force a move away from Chelsea after he was frozen out of the squad by Antonio Conte. It was made clear from the start of the saga that the Spanish striker wanted to return to Madrid to play for Diego Simeone’s Atletico side.
His Chelsea career isn’t something that should be forgotten in a hurry as he scored 52 Premier League goals in just 89 top-flight games. His impact at Stamford Bridge was fantastic, and he quickly became a fans’ favourite in West London with chants of “Diego, Diego, Diego” from the Shed End ringing around the ground every other weekend for three seasons.
He only managed seven goals outside of the league and just two in the Champions League, but there were plenty of brilliant finishes during his spell in England, whether they were from five yards out or 25 yards. We look at his best five.

Chelsea won another Premier League title, and Costa was vital to that triumph, an away win over Manchester City was pivotal. Costa scored the Blues’ first goal after Cesc Fabregas sent an inch-perfect pass over the Citizens defence before his Spanish team-mate brought the ball down, fended off the defender and sent an emphatic finish into the bottom corner, sending Chelsea fans wild.
