Diego Costa vs Luis Suarez: Two of Europe’s Hottest Strikers go Head-to-Head

Date:

Diego Costa and Luis Suarez are two of the biggest names in Europe. Every football fan may not like them, but as strikers, they are respected as two of the best in Europe.

They’ve been scoring goals for fun in their respective leagues with Costa netting regularly for Chelsea, and Suarez was finding the net for Barcelona.

If we put them head to head, we can see who’s made a better start to their season. As strikers, they’re going to be judged on goalscoring, how accurate the shots they take are, and because of their tendencies to bend the rules, their discipline will be compared as well.

Being a striker is all about scoring goals. It’s the most important part of the job, with everyone else in the team working to get their strikers a chance on goal. Therefore, being clinical in front of goal is paramount. And both these players know that. Costa has seven goals in nine Premier League games this season, more than anyone else in the league so far.

Suarez is similarly in fine form. He’s bagged seven goals in nine La Liga games this term. Like Costa, he’s atop of his league’s goalscoring chart alongside Lionel Messi. Arguably, defences in England are tougher than those in Spain, so the fact that Costa has scored more than Suarez so far this season is admirable.

Both players also have a fixed ratio of goals to shots. Costa has taken 27 shots in the league this season, and as he’s got seven goals. Suarez has similarly impressive stats, scoring seven from 29 shots.

With goalscoring records like these, fans of Chelsea and Barcelona certainly enjoy them play. But perhaps the thing that keeps opposition fans from enjoying these two players are their reputations. Both men are well known for their antics on the pitch and love to get under the skin of opponents, week in, week out.

Both Costa and Suarez have already picked up four yellow cards in nine and eight games respectively. This also means that they’re both just one yellow card away from a one-match ban.

Whether you love them or hate them, Costa and Suarez are two of Europe’s hottest strikers at the moment. They’re both at the top of their league’s goal scoring chart, and both boast very impressive scoring percentages.

Head-to-Head, though, Costa just shades it ahead of Suarez, as he’s scored one more goal in a league that’s arguably tougher than the former Liverpool man. It remains to be seen whether Costa can bag more goals than his Barcelona counterpart this term.
