The latest injury news comes as a vital blow for United as they can’t another hiccup at group stage having already lost the campaign opener 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven.

“I think Michael Carrick shall not play tomorrow (Wednesday),” Van Gaal told his pre-match presser at Old Trafford.

“The other two (Herrera and Valencia), we have to wait and see. They have minor injuries, so I don’t want to take any risks.”

Marcos Rojo missed United’s last two games with a hamstring injury, but Carrick and Valencia both started in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Sunderland which pushed Van Gaal’s side to the top of League table.
