Ex-Arsenal midfielder set to take up first-team coaching role at Norwich City

Date:

Former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to take up a prominent role in the coaching setup at Championship outfit Norwich City. That’s according to a whole host of sources across the English media late on Thursday evening.

Wilshere, once considered one of the standout talents in world football, was forced to call time on his playing days back in 2022. This came after a relentless string of injury problems left the Arsenal youth product with little choice but to hang up his boots.

Since, the one-time midfielder, still just 32 years of age, has spent his time earning his managerial stripes, back in north London. Wilshere has been manager of Arsenal’s U18s for the last two years, earning for himself a whole host of admiring glances along the way.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then Wilshere’s hard work in the dugout, imminently, looks set to pay off. As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, amongst others, the 34-time capped England international has been chosen to become new first-team coach at Norwich City. Wilshere is primed to replace Narcís Pèlach, who recently departed Johannes Hoff Thorup’s staff to take over at Stoke City:

‘Jack Wilshere, on the verge of becoming new Norwich City head coach as the agreement is being completed. Talks started today as @cjsouthwell1902 reported and Arsenal are prepared to give the green light.’

Norwich, after a somewhat hit-and-miss opening to the new campaign, currently sit 7th in the Championship table. The Canaries have managed a record of four wins, three draws and two defeats across their nine league outings to date. The brass at Carrow Road will be hopeful that Wilshere’s expertise helps to catapult their side back into the thick of the race for automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
