The Bundesliga is still a few days away from kicking off, yet the 18 teams that make up this season’s German top-flight have spent a considerable sum. The league has averaged nearly £2 million spent per player. Borussia Dortmund currently lead the way with player recruitment, as the club attempt to close the gap on Bayern Munich. However, Bayern have also strengthened well, as have many of the other teams that will be making a run at European qualification this term.

Sports Courant looks at the five Bundesliga must watch transfers.

2. Renato Sanches – Bayern Munich

One of Bayern’s two £29.75m signings this summer, Renato Sanches arrives with high expectations. Only in the Benfica squad since the autumn of 2015, the 19-year-old has had an astronomical rise in football. Sanches played a mere 35 matches with the Portuguese side before making the jump to Germany, which goes to show just how high his natural talent is deemed to be. Sanches was also outstanding at the summer’s European Championships as he was named Young Player of the Tournament, and turned in two man of the match performances for Portugal who of course went on to lift the Euro 2016 title. Luckily for Bayern, the Germans had already snapped up the youngster well before the rest of Europe knew about him.
