Jurgen Klopp has seemingly decided to trim his Liverpool squad before next season kicks off in August, recently selling the Australian Brad Smith to Bournemouth for £6 million, leaving Alberto Moreno as the only natural left-back in a team.

The German manager also allowed Jon Flanagan to join Burnley on a season-long loan, and so it appears obvious he will need to bring a new face to compete with the Spaniard who was inconsistent last year and certainly appears a weak-link for the Reds.

Here are five possible contenders to be Liverpool’s new left-back.

4Jordan Amavi – Aston Villa

Jordan Amavi

The 22-year-old Frenchman started last season very well, and recorded two assists and three MOTM awards in his first ten games in an Aston Villa shirt. Unfortunately, Amavi then suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in mid-November, and was forced to miss the rest of the campaign.

He is a tricky player who averaged 3.6 tackles and 3.7 interceptions per game, while also completing an average of 2.5 successful offensive dribbles each match. Klopp is interested in Amavi, and could move for the player who arrived in the midlands last year for £9 million. His current valuation is £10 million.

He’s not a much of an upgrade to Moreno, but would be a healthy competition, and the best years are in front of him.
