With Dwight Gayle reportedly set for a move back to The Championship and now is the time that Newcastle United start looking for players who can possibly replace the striker. The 26-year-old had a superb season last time out as he scored 23 goals in 34 league appearances as he finished top scorer in The Championship and helped his side claim the title.
Newcastle do have other options in the final third such as Ayoze Perez, Joselu and Aleksandar Mitrovic, but they will still need to fill the void that will be left by Gayle’s departure. The forward has bundles of pace and energy and also is a lethal finisher in front of goal. However, despite having such amazing abilities, he has not been given enough chance to impress at St James’ Park in the top flight.
We take a look at five possible replacements.

Arsenal has already told the 28-year-old striker this summer that he can leave the club at the right price. It was only last summer that the Gunners paid £17 million to secure the striker’s services from La Liga side Deportivo, but he has failed to impress during his short spell at the Emirates.
The forward is yet to feature for Arsenal so far this season, and with the recent arrival of Alexandre Lacazette for a club-record fee, he now finds himself way down the pecking order. Recent speculations suggest that he did look set for a move back to Deportivo this summer on loan but this has recently fallen through leaving him little time to consider some alternative deal. He is desperate for a move as he seeks first team football to give him a chance of securing a place in Spain’s squad for next summer’s World Cup and Newcastle may be the ideal destination for him to get his career back on track.
