Five things Liverpool need to do to win the league

Date:

It has been a long time since they won the league trophy. 19 years in fact. For a club like Liverpool who are rich in history it has been too long, especially with Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal grabbing multiple titles in that period. So they are in the driving seat, essentially, but how do they secure the title?

Make sure Virgil Van Dijk stays fit

Van Dijk is the most dominant defender in Europe at the moment if not the world. He has been a revelation since joining the Reds in 2018 and has effectively transformed players around him which was evident in the Champions League run last year. The Liverpool defence has improved drastically and he looks incredibly comfortable on the ball bringing confidence to the rest of the side.

His importance cannot be understated and with 12 league games to go there is still plenty of time for the title to be decided.

Keep the front three firing

Mohamed Salah Liverpool Champions League

It could be argued that they are the most fearsome front three in the league and they need to be firing on all cylinders if Liverpool are to win the title. With Roberto Firmino operating down the centre, Sadio Mane playing on the right offering a deep lying support role to Firmino and Mo Salah rampaging down the left, Jurgen Klopp will need them to be at their mercurial best if they are to win.

However, Klopp has to resist the urge of playing Salah through the middle and keep him out wide up against a full back rather than two centre backs.

Grab wins at all costs

Liverpool Defence

Liverpool have been smashing teams into oblivion and are ruthless in their attack. However, sometimes they may need to grind out a 1-0 win. It is the sign of a title winning side and with blips against West Ham and Leicester City they cannot afford to keep doing that with Manchester City breathing down their neck.

Do not get complacent

Everton Liverpool

The last time Liverpool were in a position like this they slipped up; if you pardon the pun. That dramatic loss in 2014 really hurt Liverpool who have not really recovered a title challenge until now. Some fans will be feeling that there could be a sense of deja vu as they approach the important part of the season but the players have to keep winning to show their fans they are the real deal.

Beat Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham vs Arsenal

This is the important fixture. Tottenham still have an outside chance of winning their first Premier League title and beating Liverpool could be a huge step forward in them achieving it. 31st March is the day they play each other and could be a pivotal point in both sides season. It will be no easy task but with the famous Anfield atmosphere behind the players then they might beat the London side.
