There are a lot of speculations around United’s approach of Jose Mourinho, and it looks like the deal is going to be announced in the coming days. His representatives held the talks with the Red Devils and the Portuguese manager is in line to succeed Louis van Gaal at the helm of the club.
Although the Dutchman has a contract until 2017, it’s a big possibility he will be sacked at the end of the current campaign so that the door will be open for his apprentice from Barcelona days. Pep Guardiola confirmed the move to the city rivals, Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford would revive the rivalry between the two coaches. Let’s have a look at five things that Mourinho can bring to Man United.
1. A Better Selection Of Reinforcements
Louis van Gaal’s first stint in England isn’t a successive one, he failed to bring the stability to the club, and many of his mega-transfers proved to be disastrous. Although Mourinho also had some bad transfer decisions in the past, he has a “better nose” than the Dutchman in transfer policy and possible new reinforcements should be the right ones.
2. Experience Of Winning The EPL Title
Van Gaal struggled in England thus far, and the fact that he earned a title in every country he worked before didn’t help at Old Trafford. To be fair with the Dutchman, he would probably need a couple of years more to establish himself as a genuine title contender. However, the United’s hierarchy isn’t willing to give him that amount of time; David Moyes felt that in his skin. On the other hand, Mourinho won three EPL titles, and he didn’t have a team expensive like Van Gaal has now. Nevertheless, the Portuguese tactician managed to reach the top on three occasions. It is a vital difference between the two managers. Manchester United certainly will opt for Mourinho rather than another coach without EPL experience.
3. Mourinho’s Potential New Signings
Mourinho picked out some of the brightest talents in England and abroad as his new acquisitions during the time at Chelsea, and these players could be still available in the summer. One thing is sure; the United fans can forget about Cristiano Ronaldo reunion with the club as his relationship with Mourinho broke at Real Madrid. Speculations around Lukaku’s pursuit at the end of the season can be ditched as well; Mourinho didn’t trust him during their time at Chelsea, so the “Special One” will probably look elsewhere for reinforcements in attack. Gareth Bale could be the one to solve United’s scoring problems as a clear Mourinho’s favourite. Everton’s John Stones is in the frame as well; the Portuguese tried to sign him last summer, and he could reignite the interest at the end of current season. Raphael Varane can also be on the move to Old Trafford. These three players are certainly on Mou’s shortlist.
4. Exit List Of Players
Mourinho’s appointment could mean the end of United’s career for Juan Mata. He is not the type of player Mourinho likes and was sold to United in 2014. Some of the other players may be surplus the requirements as well. The likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young could be transfer listed. Memphis Depay, who’s having a terrible first season at the club, could be on his way out too.
5. Coaching Crew
Mourinho will probably bring his old associates to his new club and United will have to sack Van Gaal’s coaches along with the Dutchman. It is well-known that Mourinho likes to link with his Portuguese compatriots.
