Five Things We Learnt As West Ham Whipped Chelsea

With Jose Mourinho, his assistant and Nemanja Matic being sent off, there couldn’t be any more things that could have gone wrong for Chelsea today. For a team running short of confidence, and points, Chelsea might be running short of their manager against Liverpool next week.  On the other hand for West Ham, they again epitomized the fact that they are challenging for the top 4.

Here are five things we learnt from West Ham vs. Chelsea fixture

  1. For Nemanja Matic – It Has Gone From Bad to Worse

If you are a player whose position is in danger, the last thing that would come to your mind is getting sent off, however, Nemanja Matic did just that today. Being on a yellow card at a situation where Chelsea were a goal down, Nemanja Matic left the referee with no choice but to send him off.

Mourinho protested – he had to according to his nature, but there might not be a single person in that Boleyn Ground today who would have objected to that decision.

One thing that adds to the misery of the Chelsea faithful was the place where he tackled the West Ham player. Running on the line with no pressure on the Chelsea goal, West Ham player could have done little to challenge Begovic from there. Thus, even if Matic would have ceased to tackle, Chelsea were in no real danger at that time.

2. After Being Sent Off in The Tunnel During Halftime – Jose Mourinho Has Completely Lost It

For a manager who won a League title everywhere he went in his career, many expect Jose Mourinho to be a bit more thick-skinned than what he is actual. After blasting the journalists in the pre-match press conference, Jose Mourinho was sent off in the game due to his rude behavior towards the official during the half time.

At a situation where Chelsea have the World against them, the last thing they need is their manager going rouge. However, looking at what Jose Mourinho is doing off late, the Portuguese is giving Roman Abrahimovich every reason that is there in the book to sack him before the end of this Season.

3. West Ham is Amongst Top 4 Contenders this Season

For a team that has been relegated twice in the last two decades, West Ham is rewriting their history in the Premier League this Season. While they appointed a seasoned manager in Slaven Bilic in the summer, anything greater than a top half finish was written off for the Hammers. However, what they have done by far is beyond any stretch of the imagination.

After humbling Arsenal at the Emirates, many expected that it was a one-off result with Petr Cech the guilty party due to his mistakes. Hence, the credit was not given to West Ham. They did the same once again at Liverpool and eyebrows were raised. However, it was actually when they defeated Manchester City that the World came to know about the bluntness of this mid-table team.

Now that that they have established their pedigree against 4 of the top 5 teams in the League, it is quite safe to say that the Hammers are solid contenders for a top 4 finish this Season.

4. The Two Clean Sheets Were a Farce – This Chelsea Defense is Far From Being Spotless

Now that we have a result that shows exactly the same, we could easily conclude that Chelsea is nowhere near a defensive giant they were last Season. While Mauro Zarate scored the opener for Chelsea, he should have had more when he went one on one against Begovic. However, his job was done by Carroll when he placed his header into the net.

In the whole of last Season, Chelsea conceded 32 goals in 38 matches. While we aren’t halfway in the current campaign, the Blues have now conceded 19 goals in just nine games this Season. Thus, if there is one word to describe the Chelsea defense, it will be “shambles” and not “spotless”.

5. Liverpool Next for Chelsea – It May Go From Worse to Worst For Jose Mourinho

While they would be playing at home against the Reds, their recent home form suggests that the blues have nothing in their coffers to be confident at home turf. Liverpool, on the other hand with a new manager and a newly found belief have everything. Thus, while Jose Mourinho teams aren’t used to losing to Liverpool, a defeat by Reds might mark the end of his reunion with Chelsea.

  2. You can all have your fun but at the end of the day the FA and referees will be losers as well. Its all good to victimise Mourinho but when it has become a situation where the officials have an attitude of “when in doubt, blow against Chelsea and you will be fine”, then shame on all concerned. May I ask how many 50/50 decisions went Chelsea’s way? PURE BIAS. Its okay to kick and shoot a Chelsea player, FA will even rescind your card if the referee dares to penalise you, so go ahead, have a go, infact, bring a knife on the pitch and stab one of them, referee will penalise the Chelsea player for falling on your knife.
