The pre-season tour of the USA is going very well for AC Milan. Albeit friendlies, the Italians have now won two matches in a row against two of the best sides in European football, i.e., Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Their latest win came against the European champions as Samuel Chukwueze punished a defensive error by the Merengues to score the only goal of the match in the early stages of the second half.
Being the goalscorer, Chukwueze was the Man of the Match for this game, but several other Milan players also stood out with their performances against Real Madrid.
Fikayo Tomori was significantly better than in the last game against Manchester City, while the goalkeeper, Torriani also gave a secure performance between the sticks.
Another player who impressed with his performance in this match was the 17-year-old winger, Mattia Liberali. Although he missed the chance to double his side’s lead, he did provide the assist for Chukwueze’s goal, and impressed with his brilliant technique.
However, despite this impressive outing, the new Rossoneri coach, Paulo Fonseca, was not sure about what the future holds for the young winger. As La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported, the new Milan coach commented on Liberali’s possible future pathway:
“He plays with courage, but we need to think about it and understand what is best for him, whether to go and play where he can have more space or stay here, be with us for a while, and have the opportunity to play for Milan Futuro. All the young players, however, are showing maturity and courage.”
Liberali clearly took his chances against Real Madrid, but it is clear that he still has a significant way to go before becoming a regular for a team as big as AC Milan. Hopefully, he will be able to continue growing on the same trajectory that he has shown up to now and become a star for the Rossoneri in the years to come.
