Authorities in the United States have reported that former NBA/Reality Show star Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel. There was no update on his current condition, but rumors suggest that he is fighting for his life in the hospital. The 35-year old former NBA star is the former husband of reality star Khloe Kardashian.
According to details available through media, two women from Love Ranch, a brothel located in Crystal, Nevada, called Ambulance at around 3:00 pm after they found Odom unresponsive and unconscious in his room.
When authorities arrived, they stabilized Odom and took him to nearby Desert View Hospital where doctors referred him to a specialized facility in Las Vegas. However, the 6’10” Odom was too tall for the hospital’s helicopter and was instead driven via ambulance to the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
Lamar Odom last played for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2013. Despite playing a critical role for the Clippers that season, he was not signed by any other NBA team during the off season.
In the same year, his wife Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce has not yet been decided on by a judge. Odom and Kardashian got together in 2009 while he was with the Lakers, with most of their relationship filmed for Kardashian’s reality show.
Odom spent first four years (and coincidentally his last year) of his career with the LA Clippers and was a key member of the squad for the 2009 and 2010 Championships. The lanky forward won the NBA 6th Man Award in 2011 as a Laker. After departing from the Lakers, Odom struggled with other teams (the Dallas Mavericks and the Clippers) and did not find a place to fit in.
After Lamar Odom had left the league, his struggles seemed to worsen. Police detained him for driving under the influence before he got involved in a vehicular accident that resulted in a fatality. Then there were rumors of substance abuse problems that eventually led to most teams not wanting to risk signing the 6’10” versatile forward.
Odom’s last chance came when former coach and current New York Knicks President Phil Jackson gave him a few months to sober up and stay clean for a chance to join the Knicks. Sadly, he was not able to meet the requirements and was waived by the organization.
The Lost Angeles Lakers were playing a preseason exhibition game in nearby Las Vegas. The only remaining teammates of Odom from his time there was superstar Kobe Bryant and close friend Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest).
“There’s not one word I could say that would make sense,” said Artest, who was a childhood friend of Odom. Bryant was unavailable for comment, but he was reported to be seen visiting Odom.
