On his day, Henrikh Mkhitaryan can tear even the sturdiest of defences apart. His ability to pick a pass, weave through defenders and ultimately create goals makes him an exceptional footballer in every sense of the word.
However, he hasn’t had many good days at Manchester United as his highlights have been limited by the rigours of the Premier League and unknown problems.
Despite beginning the 2017/18 season in the form which prompted United to acquire him in the first place, the Armenia international has been deemed surplus to requirements and is likely to be sold during the January transfer window
On that note, we take a look at 5 possible replacements for him:
4Joao Mario
Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario is reportedly unsettled at Inter Milan having been utilised sparingly by Luciano Spalletti despite his apparent influence in the side and is said to be keen on a move away from the San Siro with Manchester United amongst the frontrunners for his signature.
Mario might not be the most potent midfielder around, but his technical abilities have seen him revered as one of the best playmakers in Europe over the past few seasons. His time at Sporting in the Liga Nos saw him attract a host of suitors including Manchester United, but Inter succeeded in acquiring his services for a fee in the region of £40m.
He’d be a great replacement for Mkhitaryan given both players share a similar skillset, but if Manchester United will splash the cash.
