Fabregas Not to Be Blamed For Chelsea’s Troubles: Hiddink

Date:

The midfield maestro has been unable to replicate the mercurial form that saw him top the assists chart in the Premier League last season and despite being identified as one of Chelsea’s main underperformers, Hiddink has come out to express his full backing for Fabregas according to goal.

New Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has come to the defence of his players on a number of occasions when questioned about their loyalty to the club and now he has come out to express his support for Underperforming Spain international Cesc Fabregas.

After securing their fourth Premier League title in May, the Blues have endured a poor run of form which saw Jose Mourinho get sacked.

Despite Chelsea’s league predicament Mourinho’s sacking came as a massive shock to Chelsea fans as they believed that the special one was the right man to take the Blues to the Pinnacle of English football in the coming years.

His exit from the club drew quite a lot of attention towards the players who many claim ‘were not playing for Mourinho’ with the likes of Eden Hazard and Fabregas singled out for criticism.

But the Special one’s replacement in the Stamford Bridge dugout has confirmed that the media and fans alike are getting it all wrong.

“I think we are now focusing too much on Cesc regarding this,’ Hiddink said ahead of Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

“‘The whole team weren’t doing well until December. It’s not just one player.”

“When you look at the goals conceded, that’s not just our defence that is not good enough. It’s not just the defensive players. It’s the whole team’s performance, defensively and offensively.

“I don’t want to focus on just one player who might need a bit more strength or whatever to get back into shape.”

Despite his public display of support for the playmaker, Hiddink admitted that John Obi Mikel could get a chance in the first team setup.

“It’s not about a goalie and 10 outfield players. We want 14 or 15 potentially good players who, when they’re needed, can go into the lineup,” he explained.

“One time it might be Mikel. The next it might be Cesc or others. It depends on the opponents, too.

Chelsea currently sits at 14th place on the Premier League table following an abysmal start to the season that saw the Blues pick up just 20 points after 19 games.

Amongst others, the likes of Diego Costa and Ivanovic have also been singled out for criticism following claims that the pair had been deliberately underperforming in the first half of the season.

There have been some speculation claiming that Fabregas is set to leave Chelsea during the January transfer window, but with Guus Hiddink expressing his full backing for the midfield maestro, there will be some sense of security surrounding Fabregas’ status as a Chelsea player.
