Norwich City star Robbie Brady was swooped up by Burnley during the January transfer window in a bid to solidify their status as a Premier League side – the transfer fee was £10m but it could rise up to £13m.
Despite Norwich’s poor form this season, the Republic of Ireland international produced some brilliant performances, contributing four goals and three assists for the Canaries.
Brady also enjoyed a terrific tournament at Euro 2016 and attracted the attention of several clubs in the summer but he decided to stay with the recently relegated Norwich up until the January transfer window when he made the switch to Burnley.
His arrival at Burnley marks Sean Dyche’s ambition as he appears keen on turning his side into a force to be reckoned with. But despite Burnley’s stellar season, they could drop off at any moment, but Brady has some experience dealing with similar situations.
The former Manchester United trainee is no stranger to a relegation scrap having succeeded to avoid the drop in 2013-14 with Hull, who famously made the F.A Cup final that year. However, he has been relegated twice in his career, once with Hull in 2014-15 and then again last season with Norwich.
Norwich have been left with a void following Brady’s exit. Having already sold left-back Martin Olsson, Norwich relied on the versatile Brady to fill in at left-back. Luckily for Norwich, they have been able to tie down their exciting winger Josh Murphy for four-and-a-half years in an attempt to soften the blow dealt by Brady’s exit.
The move is great for Brady’s career as he’ll be back playing top-flight football again as he looks to continue to impress his international manager Martin O’Neil.
The opportunity to play for a side who are 9 points clear of the drop zone in the Premier League was too good to turn down. Brady will be keen on making his presence felt in the Premier League and helping Burnley stay up for the remainder of the season.
Norwich currently sits 7th in the EFL Championship standings, they’ll be keen on making it to the playoffs in a bid to climb into the Premier League. Despite Brady’s absence, they might just be able to gain promotion into the English top flight.
