Manchester United are set to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday in what is sure to be an exciting fixture. Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s men are tipped to win, here’s a look at how Manchester United should lineup if they are to have any chance of causing an upset;
GK – David de Gea
De Gea’s inclusion in this list goes without saying. Whilst the Spaniard has put up some lack-luster performances this season, he remains Manchester United’s best goalkeeper and one of the best goalkeeper’s in the world.
He will, quite possibly, play the most important role for United on Sunday considering Liverpool’s attacking qualities.
LB – Brandon Williams
After putting in a performance that earned Manchester United a clean sheet against Wolves in the FA Cup, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to give William’s a chance to go up against the best team in the league.
CB – Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire has been pretty decent for Manchester United this season, however, he has not lived up to his 80m transfer fee, which, understandably, is making United fans unhappy.
A solid performance against Liverpool could be the beginning of an upturn in form for the Englishman.
CB – Victor Lindelof
Victor Lindelof has, to a large extent, proven to be reliable for United this season. Alongside Maguire, he’s going to be key in stopping the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane from finding the back of the net.
RB – Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Wan-Bissaka has been one of Manchester United’s best players this season. His ability to track runs, man mark and make clean tackles has been invaluable to his side’s top four bid.
He will undoubtedly play a major role as United look to topple liverpool.
CM – Fred
Little by little Fred has been able to make some important contributions to Manchester United’s midfield. His influence in the middle of the park will be key as United look to transition from the midfield to the attacking third against Liverpool.
CM – Matic
Whilst Matic has struggled for game time this season his skillset will be extremely key against Liverpool. The Serbian midfielder boats incredible physicality and defensive awareness that will make it difficult for Liverpool to break through United’s midfield on Sunday.
LM – Daniel James
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking towards the Welsh speedster to do some damage to Liverpool’s defence. He hasn’t been particularly influential in recent times, but his pace will be necessary if Manchester United are to have a realistic chance of beating Liverpool.
CAM – Juan Mata
After scoring United’s lone goal against Wolves in mid-week Juan Mata is expected to play a key role for United against Liverpool on Sunday.
Mata would be more influential in a number 10 role as he’d be able to orchestrate the proceedings and serve as a link between the midfield an attack thanks to his incredible speed of though.
RM – Mason Greenwood
18-year-old Mason Greenwood has become a real fan favourite over the past few months due to his impressive performances for Manchester United. Whilst it will prove to be a difficult task, Greenwood is expected to play a key role against Liverpool.
ST – Anthony Martial
Marcus Rashford could miss the fixture against Liverpool due to injury concerns leaving Martial to lead the line. The Frenchman has what it takes to pose a real threat against Jurgen Klopp’s side, he just has to turn up in his best form.
