‘I have that nice little principle’… Thomas Frank plays down Manchester United job speculation and addresses Brentford future

Date:

In the world of football management, speculation is as common as matchday excitement. With clubs frequently linked to various coaches, it’s no surprise that Thomas Frank, the charismatic manager of Brentford, has found himself at the centre of such rumours, particularly regarding the managerial vacancy at Manchester United.

With Thomas Tuchel having taken over England, United have few quality managers on the market to turn to should they decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag. Given his credentials and ability to instil an identity on a budget, Frank’s name should ideally be on the list of targets at Old Trafford. Darren Bent even recently urged him to take the step to the next level.

However, Frank’s recent comments suggest he is unfazed by the speculation surrounding his future. During an interview with talkSPORT via Youtube, the Brentford boss addressed the rampant speculation, saying:

“There is a lot of rumors out there you know that with every club every coach, all kind of situations so I have that nice little principle that uh I never speak about players that are never not in in my club because I don’t know them well enough and I never speak about speculations either way.”

The interviewer tried to lead him on, asking if it felt nice to be rated this highly. Here is what Frank said:

“Again that’s of course that’s that’s nice I can’t neglect that but that’s just a feeling in a moment it’s just feeding my ego a little bit.”

Finally, the Danish coach also added a layer of caution, mentioning that he was very happy at Brentford as things stand. He continued:

“I’ve said many times I’m very happy at Brentford. Who knows what will happen in the future, maybe I stay here for many years I’m open maybe something happens but first and foremost very happy just working very hard every day to try to make the club better.”

Frank’s comments indicate a level of maturity and understanding about the nature of football, where loyalty to his current club is paramount. His emphasis on being happy at Brentford resonates well with fans who have seen him transform the Bees into a competitive force in the Premier League. The Danish manager took over in 2018, and under his stewardship, Brentford has established itself as a team that plays with flair and tenacity, capturing the hearts of supporters and neutrals alike.

The buzz around Manchester United potentially eyeing Frank as a replacement for Erik ten Hag is a testament to his impressive work at Brentford. The Bees finished comfortably mid-table in their first season back in the Premier League and have built on that success with astute signings and a clear attacking philosophy.

However, Frank’s commitment to Brentford should not be overlooked. With a contract until 2027, he has a genuine opportunity to continue building something special at the club. Brentford’s rise to the top tier of English football, coupled with Frank’s leadership, has laid a solid foundation for future success.

As the season progresses, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Frank and his beloved Bees. The prospect of managerial roles at high-profile clubs like Manchester United may tantalize, but for now, Thomas Frank is focused on delivering results for Brentford. After all, in football, it’s the here and now that counts the most.
