Rangers recently confirmed the signing of Romaninan youngster Ianis Hagi on a permanent deal after he impressed on loan with the Glasgow club. The fee is rumoured to be £3.15 million and that is a real steal for the son of Gheorghe Hagi. He has proved he can perform in Scotland but could he break through into a club who are currently in the Champions League?
Hagi is an incredibly talented player who has captured the hearts of the blue side of Glasgow with his flair and attacking prowess. With similar attributes as his father, it is easy to see why the fans are infatuated with the attacking midfielder.
During his loan time at Rangers, he scored three goals and assisted twice in all competitions. However, his movement and agile nature means that his ability to glide around the pitch is more important to the side than his numbers on a stat sheet.
Many have drawn comparisons to the great Paul Gascoigne and his fantastic spell at Ibrox where he scored double figures in his two full seasons and also grabbing the title twice. Pundits feel Hagi has the ability to help guide Rangers to their first title since the 2010-11 season; after a massive fall from grace.
However, with a fantastic rebuild undergoing with manager Steven Gerrard at the helm, fans and staff alike will be wondering if they can keep hold of their man. After joining for a relatively low fee, the 21 year old is still being watched by several clubs around Europe.
This immediate scouting is only going to worry Rangers if Hagi continues to perform and excel at the club. He is more than capable of playing in several roles in an advanced position which shows how versatile he can be and it is one of the attractive qualities for top tier clubs.
The Romanain also has Champions League experience with Genk. He played five out of the six games Genk played in the group stage during the 2019-20 prior to his move to Rangers; where he furthered his European credentials by featuring in the Europa League three times and grabbing an important brace against Sporting Braga.
Hagi has already shown in his young career that he has all the ability in the world to play in the Champions League and at a bigger club that can offer that chance for him. It is all about professionalism at this stage of his career but with advice coming from his father, he will make all the right choices.
