Chelsea had another woeful game when they lost 3-1 to rivals Liverpool last Saturday as they lacked the urgency and were rightly defeated by a motivated Liverpool squad. A brace from Coutinho before Benteke’s late confirmation meant another loss for the London outfit.
After a series of disappointing results, there seems to be no doubt that “All is not well” at Chelsea.
Everything at Stamford Bridge looks different these days. It seems only Yesterday that ‘the Blues’ appeared to be impenetrable. They were the one of the best defensive team in the world. Moreover, they managed to click score at the right moments to win games at crucial times. However, all this is gone now. Mourinho’s constant conflicts with FA over fines and poor refereeing added to the Eva Carneiro saga have not helped him personally. Constant injury troubles in addition to disgusting forms of almost all those players who were instrumental in the title win last year have added to the frustration of the Jose and the fans alike.
It certainly looks as if Jose has lost trust in his players. One small incident that surely verifies it happened in the Liverpool game. Chelsea were leading 1-0 when a two minute added time was announced. Happy by the Half time score line, Mourinho had decided to leave for the dressing room as he used to do in most of the matches last season. He stood up and nearly went to the tunnel, but, he stopped from going in.
The Portuguese tactician was certainly not sure about his players this time. He was so confused that he decided to stay and watch instead of trusting his players. His doubts, however, were turned into reality as Coutinho’s curled effort got past Begovic as Chelsea conceded.
This may be a very small and not so important incident, but it surely shows that Mourinho has trust issues with his players. Moreover, it also looks as if the “Special one” is running out of answers both on and off the field. His latest press conference after the Liverpool game was bizarre in itself as he uttered “I have nothing to say” an incredible eleven number of times. The defeat in the match meant that Mourinho has now lost as many home league games in the past three months as he had lost in the previous 13 years.
The trust issues are not just one sided. BBC have recently reported that one of the Chelsea first team players has said that he would rather lose than win for Jose. The unnamed Chelsea player also stressed that Jose’s relationship with Eden Hazard is particularly strained. This news comes as a big shock as most Chelsea players have publicly displayed their trust for Jose. However, the recent results show that this could be true.
Chelsea and Jose now need to bounce back from the current disastrous form, and the next UCL match against Dynamo Kiev could be pivotal. A positive result from the game could go miles in turning the fortunes for Chelsea. We firmly believe that Jose and Chelsea will come back stronger than and show Champion’s mettle.
