Josh McCown’s Injury And a New Starting QB Dilemma For The Browns

Cleveland Browns’ quarterback had a quite solid season that is now over after he suffered a collarbone injury in the game against Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. He tried to play through the injury but had to go to the sidelines eventually.

McCown started eight games for Cleveland this season after he was signed as a free-agent during summer to serve as a backup quarterback to Johnny Manziel. However, Manziel’s off the field activities forced the Browns to set McCown as a primary QB.

Now, the big question is whether Cleveland should start Manziel or Austin Davis, the later one joined in to finish the game against the Ravens. It seems like the Browns are adamant in their decision to bench Manziel following his nightlife shenanigans during the club’s bye week.

Browns coach Mike Pettine yesterday said that he is still unsure who will start against Cincinnati next Sunday and that the club may sign another QB.

“We are going to discuss it more and determine our best course of action moving forward,” Pettine said. “We are going to take everything into consideration and then make a decision for this week that is best for the team.”

So, the Browns’ QB situation isn’t going to be any easier after McCowns injury, while neither of available quarterbacks is ideal, the decision has to be made.

As per the official news coming from a trusted source in Browns’ camp, the club has decided to start Austin Davis on Sunday instead of backing up about Manziel’s punishment.

“Austin took advantage of his opportunity on Monday night,” Pettine said in an article posted on the team’s website.

“He was prepared, played well and put us in a position to win. He’s been great in the quarterback room all season, and he has earned the right to start on Sunday. We expect him to play well.”

Johnny Manziel’s partying lifestyle will cost him the starting job, and the head coach is ruthless in the decision to leave him on the bench. He now has to wait for another chance with the different coaching staff, maybe at the beginning of the next season.

For now, 26-years-old Davis will serve as a starter. Davis, who was dubbed as a new Brett Favre early in career, he is clearly not the long-term answer at the QB position and the Browns may even look for another quarterback in the offseason. The decision to bench Manziel is quite unpopular among fans, but for now, he needs to act as a professional and learn from his mistakes. No more partying for you, Mr. Manziel.
