Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos has urged teammate David De Gea to maintain a high level of professionalism at Old Trafford despite seeing a transfer move to Spanish capital sensationally collapse at the last moment on transfer deadline day.

The Spain goalkeeper came within touching distance of securing his dream transfer to Real from Man United in a deal that would see Los Blancos shot-stopper Keylor Navas move the other direction.

The two clubs spent a busy day in finalizing the contours of the high-profile deal but failed to log the transfer with La-Liga authorities before the close of transfer business in Spain at midnight on Monday.

De Gea eventually travelled back to his homeland ahead of his Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia.

“He has had a bumpy summer because he has decided his future and that of his family. But it is something we have to go through at times, everyone has to understand the facts and do their best wherever they are,” Ramos said.

Ramos was also heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, but the Spaniard ended up signing a new contract with La-Liga runner-ups that will keep him in Madrid through 2020.
