The 25th round of the Barclays Premier League was played on Saturday, and some of the results were expected while other left the fans surprised. Leicester proved their title challenge is a real deal after a huge win at Manchester City. Liverpool slipped yet again while Tottenham marched on to another victory. Aston Villa has a bit more hope for relegation after today’s games.
Man City vs. Leicester City 1:3
It all started in the early afternoon when two top teams crossed spears at Etihad Stadium. The visitors took an early lead after only three minutes. Robert Huth escaped Demichelis and scored an opener with right foot. Leicester continued to threaten Joe Hart on the counters and Vardy, and Okazaki were quite dangerous. City looked a bit shocked after an unexpected start and the second half was even worse for them. Three minutes after the interval, Riyad Mahrez dribbled a couple of home defenders before composed put the ball behind Hart. Didn’t look good for City and Huth found a net again in the 60th minute to make it 0:3. It was a header this time. Sergio Aguero managed to score a consolation goal for the hosts before the end, but Leicester took a huge win and the Foxes are lonely at the top at the moment.
Liverpool vs. Sunderland 2:2
Sunderland never won at Anfield in the Premier League, and they were lucky not to concede a goal in the first 45 minutes. The half finished 0-0, and Liverpool failed to capitalise from their domination. Bad news for Jurgen Klopp is injuries, again. Dejan Lovren and Joe Allen suffered setbacks early in the game, and Kolo Toure and Ibe took their places. Roberto Firmino, the player of the match, opened the scoring with an unlikely header following great Milner’s cross from the left. The Brazilian escaped the visiting defence and assisted to Adam Lallana, who tapped the ball past Mannone to make it 2:0 for the Reds on the 70th minute. It looked like Liverpool will see the game off. The supporters from the Kop left the stadium in protest on 77th minute like it was planned before the match. The reason is the new price of the tickets which is £77 now and they symbolically left the Anfield at the exact minute. Maybe it was better for them because what followed was embarrassing for Liverpool. Adam Johnson scored from a free-kick and Mignolet’s poor reaction was a big part of the goal. That was Sunderland’s first attempt on target. The next one was the equaliser. Jermain Defoe received the ball into the box, and Sakho did little to stop him, so Mignolet had to collect a ball from the net once again. A very poor defending from Liverpool, Mignolet was the biggest flop of the game while Firmino seemed to be the only sparkle for the hosts.
