Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has on Tuesday confirmed a fresh injury blow in his squad.
Premier League giants Liverpool are currently in the midst of final preparations for a return to continental action, tomorrow night. Fresh off a 2-1 downing of Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, the Reds will set about clinching a 5th successive victory across all competitions.
Standing in the way of the Merseyside club in their search for as much will be Serie A outfit Bologna, who battled their way to a 1-1 stalemate with Atalanta in their most recent outing.
With a little over 24 hours to run before the action kicks into gear at Anfield, the aforementioned Arne Slot, in turn, took his place in front of the media for a pre-match press conference. And quickly coming to the fore was some altogether disappointing news for those of a Liverpool persuasion.
Asked for the latest on the fitness situation in his squad, Slot confirmed that summer signing Federico Chiesa – who has to date managed just 80 minutes in the colours of the Reds – has picked up an unspecified injury. The Italian international will therefore play no part against Bologna on Wednesday:
“It happened yesterday. I’m not expecting him to be available… we will see for Sunday.”
Turning attentions towards another member of his attacking ranks, the news regarding Diogo Jota was of a more positive nature, with boss Slot having explained:
“Diogo missed 2 sessions after game against Wolves, but I’m expecting him to be available to play.”
Liverpool will lock horns with Bologna with sights set on a 2nd victory on the spin to open the club’s Champions League campaign. This comes after the English heavyweights put AC Milan to the sword by three goals to one at San Siro on opening day two weeks ago.
