There has been a lot of speculation surrounding ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in recent weeks.
After nine years in charge, the German tactician stepped down as Liverpool boss at the end of the 2023/24 season—and ever since then, speculation has been widespread about the next chapter of his career.
Jurgen Klopp has already turned down the opportunity to manage the USMNT as he enjoys a break from the game with his wife in Majorca, Spain. Of late, the 57-year-old has emerged as an outside candidate to replace Gareth Southgate for England. Gareth Southgate resigned from his post after England’s 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin, Germany.
The FA is presently looking for Southgate’s successor and Klopp has been tentatively linked with the vacant job. Now, the 57-year-old has explained if he is really interested in becoming the next Three Lions boss.
Speaking at the International Coach’s Conference, Klopp has played down any chance of him succeeding Southgate. Klopp was quoted by the German outlet Sport.
“There’s nothing. Job wise, there’s nothing at all. No club, no country. England? That would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said I’ll make an exception for you,”
“I will work at something again. I’m too young to just play paddle tennis and spend time with my grandchildren! Will it be coaching again? I’d rule that out at the moment. We’ll see how things look in a few months but right now, nothing is coming through.”
Klopp has all but ended speculation over links of him replacing Southgate in the England managerial hotseat. He has reiterated his wish to take a break from the management after a highly taxing nine-year spell at Anfield, with the German stating back in January that “he was running out of energy”.
So, if the former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss intends to return to management again, it could be in a less challenging capacity or a different position in the sport altogether. As for FA, the hunt for the new England men’s national team head coach continues.
