Liverpool are reportedly close to completing the signing of widely sought-after Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez.
The England U19 defender, who can play at right back and back back, has attracted the interest of a host of Premier League clubs this summer including Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and newly-promoted Bournemouth.
German clubs Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund are also keen to sign the defender but he is believed to have decided to stay in England.
According to Liverpool Echo, the Reds are in advance negotiations with the Championship club and the deal for 18-year-old could be finalized by the end of this week.
The two clubs have not yet agreed a transfer fee but the negotiations are underway.
The Addicks are reportedly keen for a deal worth £7 million, which could rise to £9m with several performance-related add-ons.
Gomez enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at The Valley last season, having made 24 appearances in all competitions.
Gomez has represented England at U-16, U-17 and U-19 levels. He was the part of English team that won 2014 European U17 Championships in Malta.
After completing Gomez’s signing, Liverpool could immediately loan back him to Charlton or another Championship club to broaden his first-team experience.
