Liverpool v Arsenal: The Gunners’ Possible Lineup

Date:

Following a disappointing defeat at Stoke City last weekend, Arsenal will be looking forward to making amends at Anfield this Sunday, their trip to Liverpool has been boosted by the return of Laurent Koscielny and star forward Alexis Sanchez who have missed Arsenal’s first two games due to suspension and injury respectively.

The availability of both players will be crucial to Arsene Wenger’s plans this Sunday.

Arsene Wenger is expected to make changes to the team that lost to Stoke especially with return of Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez, in defence Laurent Koscielny is likely to be a definite starter alongside Shkodran Mustafi and Nacho Monreal in the back three as Arsenal hopes to quench Liverpool’s marauding front three of Sadio Mane, Firminho and Mohammed Salah, Arsenal will need a superb defensive performance if they are to nick a result at Anfield.

In the middle of the park, Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka should be able to keep their places in midfield, both have been involved in three goals this season and have all it takes to control proceedings at Anfield for Arsenal, while the impressive Sead Kolasinac, who had a stint in a central defensive role last time out, is likely to be utilised in a more familiar wing-back role as he will provide Arsenal the needed attacking width on the left side.

Oxlade Chamberlain will be the first causality from last weekend’s defeat, the Englishman whose future at Arsenal is currently unclear has looked uninspiring and should be dropped and Hector Bellerin should be utilised in his place. Hector Bellerin is sure to do well playing on the right flank as he’d  utilise his speed to dash past defenders.

Upfront the three attacking options seem settled. Danny Welbeck’s wastefulness in front of goal was one of the reasons Arsenal left the Bet365 stadium empty handed. Arsene Wenger will surely waste no time and drop him for the returning Alexis Sanchez, who scored 25 premier league goals last season.

Mesut Ozil, who is yet to find his stride this season is likely to be retained in the lineup, and alongside Sanchez, he’ll play behind Lacazette as the Frenchman looks to add more goals to his account.

Arsenal fans will surely be excited at the prospect of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette playing together, the trio combining well will be a handful for Liverpool’s shaky defence, and hopefully, they will get the goals for Arsenal as they look forward to winning at Anfield since 2012.

Possible XI: 3-4-3 – Cech; Koscienly, Mustafi, Monreal; Bellerin, Ramsey, Xhaka, Kolasinac; Ozil, Lacazette, Sanchez.
